Aging Nursing Population/Healthcare

A 7 page research paper that examines this issue. A predominant demographic trend in the U.S. is toward a progressively older population, as Americans live longer lives. Connie Barden, president of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), points out that nurses are getting older along with the rest of the country (An interview, 2003). The aging nursing population has a tremendous impact on the current nursing shortage, as more and more nurses near retirement age. Furthermore, it is logical to presume that older nurses may find the stress caused by understaffing to be more problematic.
