Wind Shears

7 pages in length. Wind shears, also known as microbursts, are sudden and dramatic changes in the speed or direction of the wind. While most travel in a horizontal direction, there are wind shears which travel vertically; it is these that are particularly dangerous to aircraft that are taking off or landing, when correction is almost impossible due to their low altitude.
