Contrary to popular belief, not all of them were saloon girls and prostitutes; there were some who had legitimate businesses such as boarding houses and laundries, and others were searching for gold themselves. The executive level is male-dominated with barriers that few women are able to break through. This paper discusses those barriers. Three female CEOs (two American, one Japanese) are profiled with information about others who have reached high executive levels, including Carly Fiorina who is the first women in history to lead a Dow 30 company.
