Notes that although domestic abuse is not a new component of our society, it is one which has seemingly become a more prominent component in recent years. Contends that with our increased awareness of this phenomenon we have begun to consider the psychological impacts which battered women sustain, impacts which sometimes drive them to violence and even murder. As a consequence, the concept of the battered woman has now entered the courtroom not solely as a description of a plaintiff but as a defense strategy for a women who has committed a violent crime as a result of the psychological trauma to which she has been subjected. Slick weight loss advertisements have people believing that a quick fix is better than a slow and steady success; far too few encourage regular exercise with speedy caloric reduction, which ultimately places the dieter at great risk for the loss of bone density. According to a study done in 2005 and published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, people who seek weight loss by calorie reduction alone have been found to lose bone density as compared with those who ate a balanced diet and exercised away the weight. What this clearly illustrates is how the properties of calories go much further than creating energy and putting on the pounds; rather, they are instrumental in maintaining bone stability that helps to ward of osteoarthritis. Breast Cancer and Hormone Replacement Therapy

This 20 page report discusses the fact that postmenopausal estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) has been repeatedly linked with breast cancer. Some studies show no increased risk for breast cancer. Others suggest there may be a slight increased risk, while still others say that there is an increased risk, but that it is minimal and occurs only after ten or more years of use. Numerous research efforts that have shown that estrogen use is clearly connected to an increased risk of uterine, endometrial, and breast cancers. However, such factors must be weighed against the fact that estrogen significantly reduces a woman's chances of developing osteoporosis and can act as a defender against cardiovascular disease.
