Pornography: Different Views
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page discussion of the opinions
surround pornography. Contrasts the views of two feminist, Catherine
MacKinnon and Sallie Tisdale, each of which perceives pornography in
widely divergent ways. While MacKinnon's 'Not A Moral Issue' explains
the adverse impacts of pornography to women and society as a whole,
Tisdale's 'Talk Dirty to Me: An Intimate Philosophy of Sex' is receptive
to pornography despite these adverse impacts, suggesting in fact that
the solution to the problems associated with pornography is a greater role of women in production of that pornography. Bibliography lists 2
sources.

Sexuality and Women's Self-Determination in Four Classic Literary Works
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page paper showing the connection between these two issues, as demonstrated in the works of Aristophanes, Plato, Dante, and Shakespeare (Lysistrata, The Apology, The Inferno, and The Tempest, respectively). The paper asserts that Western literature first mocked or dismissed the sexual expression of female self-determination, later turned it into a sin, and finally transformed it into a social gaffe, but until recently still continued to maintain that its suppression was not wrong. Bibliography lists five sources.

The Crime Of Rape / Responsibility, Blame, & Reporting The Incident
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page research paper in which the writer discusses the failure of most women to report rape due to the unfortunate reality that society fails to accept their definition of rape in many cases and is not always sympathetic towards their plea for justice. Comparisons are made between male and female views of rape and who should be blamed. For example, men are more likely to blame the woman if she is known to have acted in a provocative, 'sexy' fashion whereas women may blame a rape victim because of their need to feel that they are in control of a violent situation and also because of their need to distance themselves from the victim. Disparate psychological issues concerning recovery & coping are also discussed. Bibliography lists more than 20 sources.

Gender Bias
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper that discusses gender bias against women in a male-dominated culture. Stereotypical behaviors are learned early in life and are perpetuated throughout life in media depictions of women. The comments of three feminist authors are integrated: Sandra Lee Bartky, Sandra Lipsitz Bem, and Catharine A. MacKinnon. The writer also addresses the need for women to take responsibility to change their own environment. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
